Mississippi became a state on December 10, 1817 and was the 20th state to be admitted to the Union. Mississippi Consists of 82 counties, and has a population of nearly 3 million people.  The highest point in the state is Woodall Mountain located in Tishomingo County in the extreme northeast corner of the State.
